Opportunities and Experiences

At Shoreham Academy, we aim not only to ensure our students succeed in exams but also to develop character, compassion, and a sense of service. Throughout their time here, students are expected to contribute to our school community and to society. We encourage students to try things they cannot yet do, persist in the face of difficulty, and become resilient in overcoming obstacles and we define Resilience like this: ‘to persevere when things are difficult and keep going when things go wrong.”

With this in mind, we provide a breadth of opportunities and experiences to help our students become confident, well-rounded, and ambitious young adults. Our curriculum and enrichment programme is filled with opportunities to try something new and develop new skills.

In addition to our extensive range of extracurricular clubs, our students benefit from university visits, talks by inspirational speakers from the worlds of medicine, law, and business, and numerous opportunities to collaborate with peers at United Learning schools across the country.

Going Extra

#EducationWithCharacter

We are incredibly proud to deliver an Education with Character—an education that challenges, inspires, and excites our students, preparing them for the ups and downs of life.

Extra-curricular involvement is an essential part of a well-rounded education. It is vital that our students demonstrate their wider interests and desire to help others. Involvement in these activities can significantly increase your child's chances of getting a place at university or securing their desired job. Evidence of their involvement can be included in Personal Statements and CVs when applying for jobs.

Our pledges have been adjusted. We have modified our original 10 pledges to 5:

  1. Regularly attend an after-Academy activity (including Outdoor Activities & schemes)
  2. Represent the Academy at a sporting, cultural/creative performance, or academic event or trip
  3. Deliver a formal presentation, speech, or talk to an audience
  4. Demonstrate leadership within the academy
  5. Volunteer time to support our local community, a charity, and/or sustainability
